As an artist I hope it doesn't happen but at the same time it doesn't help fulfilling people's request of what they need to be draw but on the other hand it is horrifying to think that AI will replace artists however it really depends by the popularity or other reasons but only time will tell.

Relevant thread?: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1508717

And you're right that "prompt artists" may be a skill unto itself in the future. Conceptualizing something so that it can be rendered properly is already a difficult task right now.

Someone posted an example of AI art of a naked pope woman with BIG tiddies and it looks absolutely gorgeous. The prompt they used literally contains "award_winning" and it looks like an award-winning oil painting!!! That's absolutely insane!!!!

Agreed about prompt artistry. If you go onto the official Discord server of NeuralBlender, there’s an entire channel dedicated to sharing experiences with formulating prompts and how the different blends work.

I think the best thing to do, or at least one way to ease anxiety, is to use AI as a tool in your toolbox rather than seeing it as an enemy. In my experience, not only does it allow me to quickly visualize funny one-off images that I’d otherwise abandon halfway through drawing, thus keeping me from wasting my time, but it also helps me formulate design ideas faster than I normally could, so long as I don’t generate too many reference images. I’m also a photo collage person as well as a normal digital artist, so there’s that obvious use for them too!

That's interesting! I'd love to take a look at that NeuralBlender Discord channel and see how they are wrangling the AI to control it more.

This is a good attitude to have. I'll have to try using that "quick visualization" idea! I have the same problem where I'll have a neat idea and then abandon or forget about it, so maybe popping it into an AI and seeing how it could look will motivate me to put effort into it! :)

im out of a job now

to me it's honestly demoralizing seeing this shit come out. especially with how poorly creative teams are treated as is/how much corner-cutting is already being done across all industries I can't see this going anywhere good (and already people are spotting companies & businesses use AI art for regular editorial stuff so it's sadly not far off)

ik people can argue "it will never replace true human-made art" but as true as it is, companies don't care. in other words I'm debating scrapping doing art as a career & finding a different skill

REALLY. I predicted they would eventually, but are corporations already doing it already? I'd like to see it so I can be disgusted firsthand. If you have examples of that, lemme know.

The fact that there are millions of artists out there, many of them better than me, hasn't stopped me from drawing. AI won't either.
I mean, I will starve to death, but I will be drawing until then.

Yeeee. Some artists get disheartened even when they see artists way better than them. Now there's AI that can make art on that level instantly?? I totally get it. But ya know, you just gotta not think about that. Or else you won't make any art! It takes a good amount of determination to keep going despite that.

By the way, your art looks really nice, I like it a lot ?

1^.Its definitively gonna cause a revolt or a revolution. Certain lines will be drawn. I just dont want the retarded general masses getting their hands on it, since they will ruin it the same way they did everything else.

2^.NG will have a new forecast to look out out for, that being AI art being peddled here as man-made. Wonder how you could sniff those out.I heard that AI art is lacking in details despite the skill the image is made in.

3^. Although AI will eventually come to be the more dominant aspect in art with time, i´d say there would be a sort of second coming for artists that will spring up over time. Since AI will make most of the art automated, and probably cheap too, It would make the whole thing really hard to profit from.

3,1^.Accounting to that all the people that are in this shiznit to make a buck or any other venture that isn´t strictly done out of passion for the Arts or the sake of it will steadily decrease in the low numbers.Sure there will be still those that think they have what it takes to profit from it but aside from that the only people still doing it would be those creative types that do it out of love for it.
So all you will be left with for the most part are those cooks and cranks that do it just for funsies.

3,2^.Like imagine NG, but the entirety of the art sphere, just making art pieces or animation non-profit because they respect and love the Craft. And from what i know people in general will be drawn in with the human aspect of said art pieces.AI is of course soulless and mechanically made and almost perfect.Perfection is boring, its the flaws that make the work truly shine and interesting. Just look at all the world-famous artists out there.I don´t think AI or the prompters could master the rules enough to break them and through that make their own artstyle out of it.
Remember that the AI can only copy artstyle and NOT create their own. If you cycle through these robot-made pieces enough times you will see repeats unless some artist decides to donate their own style to it.

3,3^.Even then though, you shouldn´t underestimate human ingenuity. People can and will find other ways to make a living out of Art, i do not know how but it would be frankly ignorant to rule the whole thing out.

TLDR: This is just another new tool and competitor on the market.Whatever happens it´s actions and consequences will lie within the beholder of it and not the tool itself. Artists will still be able to get by only they will have to plan around another layer of contingency to do it.

That's a meaty response! :O

Newgrounds currently does not allow AI art (thankfully). I don't foresee them ever allowing it because I have always gotten big artist-first vibes from this site.

The idea that AI art will be difficult to profit from because it's so easy to make might be wrong. I liken it to NFT art and NFT art generally looks like it was made in a "dress up" Flash game, very simple and efficient to make. People bought those. MOST people didn't, thankfully, but there was a big NFT art bubble. Maybe something similar will happen with AI art?

It'll be interesting to see where it goes! It's a very sci-fi thing and though I find it disgusting as an artist, I also find it fascinating.

I honestly think that AI art would co-exist with human art, though not in very good terms. In my opinion there will always be people who want to make art by themselves because they enjoy the process more than the final result. Of course that doesn't stop anyone from choosing AI because it's quicker and cheaper.

ye! I think it SHOULD be able to coexist! There's just things in society (dare I say a CAPITALIST society) that make it a lot harder for it to.

i think A.i is only good for making a background because the foreground actually still has a lot proportion and detail issue, so idon't think it will replace artist anytime soon

I dunno! I remember AI art looked pretty shit only a few years ago and now it looks way better! Who knows what it'll look like in ten years' time.

although it's impressive that AI can take your prompts and manifest it into a digital piece, i've always found AI generated "art", to be bordering on the uncanny valley, i can't see it being accepted as true art imo, it kind of ruins the integrity and especially the human aspect of what makes art special, and to me, personally, AI generated "art" just comes off as really creepy to me, doesn't matter what the prompt is, get it away from me, yuck

Oh absolutely. It's VERY easy to generate AI art that looks like surreal body horror. I remember Markiplier did a video a while ago where he generated "Markiplier with a knife" and anything the AI made straight up looked like a creepypasta.

@Jade-Everstone Sadly true. Whether lowering pay, outsourcing work for lower pay, tighter deadlines, or whatever, few companies don't value artists as much as they should. Those few that do care, just hope they'll survive among the lifeless corporate giants.
You can always add on another thing that you can do alongside art, or something that would go well with art, like art + a different major, or character/graphic/interior/landscape/etc design. Just don't limit yourself.

You already see AI stuff oversaturate viewerships on DA or Insta. Most consumers dont care wether the art was selected from 100 AI pieces or made by an actual artist.

Currently I see the AI tools as an assistance thing. Like you need a certain stone texture or 7 trees in a row right now and dont want to hassle with stock sources, then it realy shines. Or rapid prototype stuff. But it sucks too much in most cases from a professional viewpoint to generate a finshed presentable rendering.

I haven't been on Deviant Art since like 2015, so I didn't know that AI art had an audience there. (They had some policy in their TOS that said they could make and sell prints of your art without your permission, so I boycotted it.)

While writing all this, I thought about harmless uses for AI art, like generating simple YouTube thumbnail backgrounds. Or like you said with prototype concept art. You could take the ideas the AI makes and then build upon that in your art!

There are a lot of comments here! I'll try to respond to what comments I can. :)

Honestly Probably The government will create a new licence that will be illegal to not use with AI Generated Art/Pictures, In other words, Yep we illustrators are all done for...

Somone here posted a link to a forum post that talked about this idea. To my understanding, AI generates art by photomashing a bunch of relevant, pre-existing images from image databases. That means that it inevitably uses copyrighted material without permission and that may very easily cause problems. The government would probably get involved that way, but I don't think the government is going to MAKE US use AI art lol

Ai art is bad and unneeded
